"The best leaders take their expert management skills and combine them with people skills to become well rounded and highly successful," writes Forbes' Ashira Prossack. "The difference between being a good leader and a great one is in the relationships you build with your team."
She goes on to list four key components of a great leader, including:
- Coaching, not directing. A good leader helps their teammates grow and develop. "They understand when they need to nurture their teams, and when they need to push them," Prossack writes.
- Being adept. Great leaders understand that change is inevitable and can come at any time. They have the ability to rally their teams to make things happen – regardless of any changes that may come.
- Respect. Great leaders show their respect through trusting their teams.
- Being a master communicator. Everyone hears news differently. Great leaders understand how to tailor their communication style to meet the needs of their listeners.
Becoming a great leader is something that is attainable but requires practice. Take the time to learn yourself and your teams.
